God on display

 God on Display

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known.

PSALM 19.1-2

They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

ROMANS 1.19-20

Some people say they can’t believe in anything they can’t see. But there are plenty of things we can’t see but we still believe in — like the air we breathe to stay alive or the gravity that keeps us on the ground. Even though we can’t see air, our lives depend on it. Even though we can’t spot gravity, we feel its effects every day.

It’s the same with God. We can’t see him, but our lives depend on him and we experience evidence of him every day. Even though we can’t see him with our eyes, the Bible says that he has made the truth about himself obvious to us. All people everywhere have been given a deep, inner sense that God is real. While many people reject this truth about God’s existence, those who respond to it in faith discover that this inner awareness of God becomes stronger and more defined. That’s how they can say they know God.

Along with the internal knowledge God gives to every person, nature offers clear evidence of God’s existence. In some sense, every created thing proves that God is real and God is good. We look into the sky and see the sun and the clouds, the moon and the stars. By their very existence, they seem to shout that a powerful and wise Creator made them and sustains them. But nothing gives as clear a witness to the existence of God as we do. It only makes sense that an intricate, skilful, communicative, living creature like a human being only could have been created by an all-powerful, all-wise Creator.
