Why Jesus died

God loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life, 2 that through death Jesus might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. 3

Christ gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age. 4

He gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession, 5 to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 6

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. 7 He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. 8

Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God. 9 Our Lord Jesus Christ died for us so that we might live with him. 10

For the joy that was set before him Jesus endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 11
