A New Heart
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
EZEKIEL 36.26
Don’t ever allow yourself to believe that you’re a bad person. Even when you have done something that tempts you to see yourself as bad, remember that you are not defined by what you do. The One who lives in you determines your true identity. Don’t believe anything to the contrary.
It may be tempting at times to stare at your failures, your weaknesses, and the areas of your life where you believe you are deficient. It’s tempting to conclude that you aren’t all you ought to be. Do not travel that legalistic pathway. It will only lead to self-condemnation and defeat.
At the core of your being, you are a righteous child of God. You have been given a new heart. Maybe you’ve focused on the Old Testament verse that talks about the heart being deceitful and desperately wicked. However, you don’t live in the Old Testament. You live in New Covenant times, and things have changed.
Your heart is new because a new Spirit, His Spirit, lives in you. So reject lies that come to your mind and walk in the truth of your new heart.
